12 Days of Bookmas – What to buy – The Dreamer. #ReadWomen edition

There’s a certain type of book that attracts the Dreamers. They are dreamlike and magical and worded so exquisitely that they are almost poetry. All the best examples I’ve found of this type of book have been written by women, so I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to incorporate the 12 Days of Bookmas with #ReadWomen. And because the writing is so beautiful, I thought I would let these books speak for themselves. 1 – The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern “You may tell a tale that takes up residence in someone’s soul, becomes their blood and self and purpose. That tale will move them and drive them and who knows that they might do because of it, because of your words. That is your role, your gift.” “Someone needs to tell those tales. When the battles are fought and won and lost, when the pirates find their treasures and the dragons eat their foes for breakfast with a nice cup of Lapsang souchong, someone needs to tell their bits of overlapping narrative. …

Someone deems me worthy for a Liebster Award + June Book Haul!

So, first up, the wonderful Irene at Tea, Book, & Me has nominated me for a Liebster award (bless her cotton socks!) which is lovely. If you don’t know what a Liebster Award is, it’s an award for bloggers with under 200 followers. So the rules for the Liebster award are: Eleven Questions 1. What is that one quote that identifies you as a bookworm? Explain its significance. “It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.” I think all bookworms are, in a way, the sum of the books they’ve read. 2. Do you love the smell of ancient books more so than the fresh new one you just bought? no. actually, the smell of really old books makes my nose sting. 3. Hardcovers, paperbacks, or ebooks all three, but mainly hardcovers and ebooks 4. If you love a book, would you want it to be adapted into a film? Why or why not? absolutely! I love to see how other people imagined …

Bird was a girl with secrets.

“How did you know,“ Summer would demand, and then decide: “It’s probably a coincidence.” “It’s not a coincidence,” Bird would say. “It’s just obvious. Your body just knows.” “But how do you know?” “How do you know a story is a good story or not?” asked Bird. “Like that. You know like that.” I just picked this up yesterday with the intention of just reading a page or two before going back to the book I was already reading, and I read several chapters and have been thinking about it every since. The prose is just gorgeous!

June Book Haul #1 and the unacceptable practices of booksellers.

So I don’t know how this happened. Where did all these books come from? Is it time for another book buying ban? What can I say, Dymocks was having a sale and I was really close to getting my Booklovers Gold card. So I bought three of the little black penguin books, three popular penguins (which are three for $20 at Dymocks at the moment), one Agatha Christie novel and the hardcover of The Miniaturist. I ordered the Barnes and Noble leatherbound edition of Peter Rabbit ages ago and I was starting to wonder if it was going to come. I have the new edition of The Jungle Book in the Puffin Children’s Classics set. I also received Thief’s Magic by Trudi Canavan from Hachette Australia (I am part of the upcoming blog tour, which includes a giveaway – so stay tuned) and I’m really excited to get into this one. And finally, and disappointingly I received the beautiful Summer and Bird, which unfortunately has quite a large amount of sticker damage. That brings me to a …
