I have spent the previous three days writing my introduction for my PhD thesis on cancer immunotherapy, and it has inspired me to recommend this book. It also is probably worth mentioning that due to the fact that I am currently writing my PhD thesis, that I will be on semi-hiatus for the next few months. I will still try to post my regular features, including my Recom-Monday-Tions and my Friday Photographer Feature, but I may be too distracted at times to remember to post, or organise photographers to feature. I also expect my reading (well reading that is not scientific journal articles) to reduce dramatically, so there will also be fewer revies. Sorry about this, but it is unavoidable. Book Review: Paper Towns by John Green

So, as I’m sure you all know, the movie for this book will soon be upon us. So I decided I should probably get a move on and read this book that I’ve had on my Kobo forever. What’s it about? After being friends as children, the sensible ‘boring’ Quentin and the wild ‘not boring’ Margo drift apart, and Quentin can therefore only admire her from afar. Until one night, Margo climbs in his window and takes him on a nighttime adventure of revenge and various youthful misdemeanors. But then the next morning, Margo is nowhere to be found and it seems she has left a list of clues for Quentin to decipher if he wants to track her down. “Margo always loved mysteries. And in everything that came afterward, I could never stop thinking that maybe she loved mysteries so much that she became one.” What did I think? It was alright. The book is composed of three parts. After finishing the utterly fantastic The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buehlman last night, I tried to get into another book right away to try to stave of a severe book hangover. These are the two beauties I’m hoping to read this weekend. I figured I should probably read paper towns before seeing the movie. I picked it up last night and was very reluctant to put it down at about 1 am. This doesn’t seem to be anyone’s favourite John Green book though, so I don’t really know what to expect. I’ve heard so many amazing things about The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black. People have been absolutely raving about it. So I’m really expecting big things from this one. Have you guys read these? Should I be excited about either of them? Yes?
